A Time for Reflection

Taking a break from the “work” of your work is so important as it helps all the team get a fresh perspective on what we are doing and why we are doing it! Sitting in the same chair, in the same office can keep us from fresh thinking and news ideas, so we packed our bags and headed off to Bali for 4 days.

Whilst we have mini conferences yearly, every 3 years we plan a major company conference and it was important that we immersed ourselves in our senses. Why? Because as I mentioned in our last newsletter Sensory Design is proclaimed as the new “Philosophy of Design”. What better place to chew the fat on new thinking in design, especially sensory design than Ubud, Bali?

Needless to say everyone enjoyed the trip and we all came back invigorated and excited to work on our new ideas and approaches that we believe will make us more effective as designers and educators and offer a whole lot more to our clients.

Participating in some of the sensory experiences meant that quite a few of our team were trying new things and that was quite challenging. We were all certainly stretched out of our comfort zones. What was extraordinary for me was to see how all the team embraced the challenge, coming together and working as one.

We stayed in a wonderful place called “The Rice Joglo” in the middle of the rice paddies where the only way in and out was on a motor bike. That was certainly challenging for some of us!

Stephen Covey lists “The habit of renewal” as his seventh habit of highly effective people. To maintain and increase effectiveness we must renew ourselves in body, heart, mind and soul. There is no doubt that we achieved all of that from our wonderful conference.

Stay tuned for our next conference in 2020!
