DFD in the running for APAC Eldercare Innovation Award!
The Xmas decorations have only just been packed away and we are already seeing the Easter bunnies on the shelves! I cannot believe that February is almost over and it will soon be Easter.
Wow what a start it has been to 2018. We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we have been shortlisted as one of the finalists for the 6th Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards 2018 to be held in Singapore in the category of Best Silver Interior Design for our work at the Amaroo Buckley Caring Centre, Gosnells. Congratulations to all my team who continually excel and deliver over and above for all of our clients. Gary Batt Architects have also been shortlisted in the Best Silver Architecture category. So, needless to say I can see a trip coming up to Singapore in May to sample some of their culinary delights such as their signature chilli crab - yum!
I have also been asked to speak at the Ageing & Society: Eighth Interdisciplinary Conference in Tokyo/Japan, September 18-19, 2018. The paper I intend to present is “Design Is Not for Philosophy; It’s for Life (Miyake)”
We believe interiors, architecture and design for aged care needs to step up and produce spaces that have more meaning and purpose. Influencers such as Emi Kiyota have formed an organisation called Ibasho, embodying the Japanese concept of “a place where one feels at home being one’s self”. I believe this translates perfectly into every culture. Emi tries to incorporate the Japanese aesthetic of “Imperfectness” in her housing design, in order to enable the occupants to fill in the meaning of a space.
We know how important designing appropriate spaces are for residents; but we also know how important it is to design spaces to appeal to families, after all they are generally the main decision makers in choosing residential care. We believe to design a successful facility it is important to address both and that is one area where our speciality lies.
Another exciting project Samantha and I are working on this year is Engagement Boxes. I can’t let the cat out of the bag as yet but we will definitely keep you posted.
