Re-modelling for SDCP - St Bernadette’s VMCH Victoria

In conjunction with project Architects Made Studio in Melbourne and in collaboration with Gary Batt Associates Architects in Perth we contributed to the successful re-model and fit out of Lady Lourdes House at St Bernadette’s Aged Care. Situated in Sunshine North, Vic., Lady Lourdes House is owned by Villa Maria Catholic Homes and is a Specialist Dementia Care Program (SDCP) project.

An estimated 1% of the 436,000 Australians living with dementia experience ‘severe’ behavioural and psychological symptoms. The Health Department are pledging $70 million per year towards this program and are keen for 35 specialist units to be built or developed across the country. The offer for funding on each site is $1.1 million dollars per annum up until June 2024 for the operational costs.

Sonya Smart, the CEO says this about the project
”The future of exceptional aged care relies on providing services that are tailored to the individual.

“We believe this is a great opportunity to provide specialised care for those with dementia, where we can provide care and support, and empower our residents to live happy, fulfilled lives despite their disease.”

To date 10 SDCP units have been completed nationally.
