Wheelchair Accessible Activity Gardens for Aged Care
Getting outdoors is one big win, but having activities to do outdoors is an absolute must! From nooks to sit and chat, to sensory delights such as lambs ears. What goes into your outdoor space should have as much thought to it as what goes inside. This month we have had some wonderful projects begin which include dementia friendly gardens - and it has got us so excited.
.
One aspect to keep in mind is how to make gardens more accessible?
The design we love is the Green Circle Accessible Gardens. These make the activity of gardening easier for those in wheelchairs. It self-irrigates, collects rainwater, is weather and impact resistant and can be put together to create an accessible gardening group. We love the idea of putting hanging baskets on the other side and don’t they look lovely with flowers in full bloom?
One activity would be to engage residents in growing herbs and other produce that could then be used in their own cooking or even sold at farmers markets!
We absolutely love this as a way to get people outside and engaged.
