Sound Stimulation Solved: Sound Absorbing Lamps
A busy street with car horns honking, a kettle whistling, TV up loud, radio on, microwave beeping, phone ringing. If this cacophony of sound seems like a recipe for a bad time you’re not alone. We have previously discussed how sound affects us, but how does the design of a space contribute to over-stimulation through noise? The answer is bad acoustics. A room design can be the most visually stunning, but if there are unwanted noises that can’t be controlled, it’s all for naught.
We enjoy out of the box thinking and smart design, so when we came across these acoustic lights by Acustico, we were intrigued. A combination of sound absorbent material, a curved undulating surface, some funky colourways equals an award winning light that has been shown to absorb and diffuse up to 30% of sound in a room.
Acustico’s Director started the company after suffering with a vestibular migraine. She spent two years in research and development, working with craftspeople to create a collection which would help spaces look, sound and feel better.
‘I always start with how I want a space to feel. Design is not just about the visual elements, it needs to cater to all the senses,’ - Director Samantha McKenzie.
There are sound lab testing results on their website, check them out here. On Instagram here.
