Crafting during a crisis
It’s no secret that our country is burning. The bush-fires across Australia are having a devastating impact on our native wildlife. Not knowing how to help during these times can often lead to feelings of hopelessness and anxiety.
That’s where knitting, sewing and crocheting come in. By crafting mittens for burnt Koala pads and cotton pouches for marsupials. Small items make a big difference in helping our unique fauna.
We are proud to be currently working with local Perth manufacturer Torrance and McKenna to produce much needed Joey pouches.
If you want to help out and get your craft group sewing for a good cause, not-for-profit group the Animal Rescue Collective Craft Guild has sewing projects and patterns here.
Our wildlife helpers need everything from animal beds, to crochet nests. So no matter your skill level there is a project and animal who needs your skills.
We love the idea of upcycling old woollen blankets and cotton sheets, saving them from going to landfill.
Pouches need to be made of a natural fabric for the inner and the outer can be made of any material.
There are many ways to give back to your community in times of crisis. Looking after the vulnerable and extending ourselves when we have the energy available is immensely important!
